Description Technical Specs

After experiencing repeated caliper piston seizure on our shop Lexus GX470, we designed a new brake kit to improve brake performance and reliability. Unfortunately, the original calipers are notorious for experiencing piston seizure due to the fact that caliper is made from cast iron and the pistons are made from steel – materials that easily corrode. Rather than replace with remanufactured auto store calipers (which will typically fail within a year), or expensive new calipers from the dealer, owners of Lexus GX and Toyota 4Runners now have the option of upgrading to our new 6 piston performance brakes.

Our GX front brake kit is easily on par with the venerable Brembo caliper/rotor found on top performing cars such as the Lexus ISF. This BBK utilizes Wilwoods massive Aero6, 6 piston front calipers. Unlike the cast aluminum Brembo calipers on the IS-F, the Wilwood Aero6 calipers are forged, and feature internal seals for higher temperature capability.

Please note that the color of Wilwood Aero 6 calipers we ship now is different from the photo of this product. Wilwood changed anodizing to grey from black. They claim that new anodizing has improved surface hardness.

This product features include:

  • Wilwood Forged Aluminum Aero 6 piston calipers. Forged aluminum construction with 6 differential bore pistons made from stainless steel that will never corrode or seize.
  • Aero 6 calipers come with standard black anodized finish, but available custom powder coated as well.
  • Standard rotor thickness is 27.5mm which we upgrade significantly to 32mm, resulting in longer brake rotor life, greater thermal capacity, and higher resistance to warpage.
  • High temperature brake pads. Even the highest temperature pads for OEM calipers fade quickly beyond 800F. The BP20 compound is rated up to 1100F. This means that you will not fade these brakes, even when braking beyond 100mph, or towing heavy loads.
  • Offered in optional powder coated paint colors with RR Racing logo (please specify in order notes if you prefer no logo).

All components in this product kit, with the exception of the brake rotor castings, are proudly engineered and manufactured here in the United States of America.

It’s hard for me to say how much this improves braking over stock since one of calipers was seized, however, my GX now has better braking power and feel than our Audi Q3. I originally ordered the anodized calipers but found out they were backordered. Customer support worked with me and gave me options and I ended up going with the yellow powder coat. I was hesitant at first since I’m not a huge fan of yellow but they look great with my silver wheels and paint. Like Kirk said you will need to bend the hard lines off the caliper, fab up longer ones, or go with a brake hose long enough to use a banjo fitting. Trimming of the dust shield will more than likely be required, but I knew this going in. Giving 4/5 stars because of the frustration around the brake lines, otherwise it’s a great kit that any DIYer can put together and still retain use of stock rotors and not having to get costly aftermarket rotors like other kits require.

I installed this kit on my 2008 Lexus GX470 in early June and after a month of driving, I can say that this kit truly helps stop the GX much better than the stock brakes.  I was initially worried that the two extra pistons per caliper would result in increased pedal travel, but I can't tell any difference in that regard.

I did have to fabricate my own hard line between the spindle and the caliper.  You can bend the stock hard line, but I didn't like the way that turned out, so bear this in mind.

Also, if you're going to do only the front brakes like I did, you should add on the rear steel braided brake lines to get the best pedal feel.
